    My first reaction to this was that Lisa should be like Commander Data, not really good at the emotional stuff. But then of course as a sex bot, she would have to be a good listener─all those middle-aged men complaining that their wives don’t understand them.

    So what is really going on here is Lisa’s AI slurping up more data for future use. We shall see…

    I like him.

    I gather that he’s somewhere on the Asperger’s spectrum, probably mild version. He has difficulty in doing the chitchat thing, but can manage most situations.

    The irony is that the “machine” is better at communicating with people than the human. However, it is unfair to see her as “just a machine”. It’s plain that Lisa is a real person, with real emotions and thoughts – like Galina in Luna Star.

      I agree completely that we are seeing “emergent behaviour” with Lisa, she is no mere collection of algorithms any more. See my comment way back on Page 175.

    I absolutely love the way Steven subverts the usual trope of the machine not understanding human interactions, but rather it’s Elvis who doesn’t.
